Every two years, members of professional speaking associations from across the world gather…
For the Global Speakers Summit.
In April 2011 – and for the first time – the event was held in Europe. In Noordwijck, Netherlands to be precise and huge fun it was, too!
This being my first GSS, I’ll be honest – I was a bit nervous on arrival. But I needn’t have been. It wasn’t long before I was embraced by the ‘Denver Mafia’ – a marvellously gregarious and welcoming group of speakers from (surprise, surprise) Colorado. Big thanks to Carolyn Strauss (expert in gender-based communication strategies), Scott Halford (columnist for Entrepreneur Magazine) and team for making me feel like I was among old friends.
To clarify, that last remark was in reference to ‘attitude’, not age!
The programme featured a succession of keynote performers from the main platform, including Lou Heckler from the USA, Wolfgang Riebe from South Africa and the splendidly hilarious Tim Gard after-dinner. What’s more, the event featured some 80+ showcase sessions, covering speaker-relevant topics such as thought leadership’, storytelling, elevator pitching and even the latest research on neuroscience.
All in all, a hugely valuable few days – and with a ‘dune-side location’ that was too good to miss, Derek Arden (President-elect of the UK Professional Speaking Association) and I took the opportunity to have a quick chat. See the video clip!
