Just Keep Delivering!

Years ago, I worked in politics.

Amongst other things, as a constituency campaign manager in the UK’s 2005 general election.

Having never previously come higher than third, to demonstrate we were serious this time, our strategy involved delivering leaflets.

LOTS of leaflets.

It got to the point where I noticed signs in some people’s windows.

“No more leaflets please!”

“We get the message!”

“Enough leaflets!”

Concerned by this, I spoke to our campaign agent.

“Jeff, we’re beginning to p*ss some people off… what do we do?”

“Keep delivering!”

“WAT??!!”

“No-one who’s planning to vote for us will change their mind because they’ve heard from us too often.”

“But Jeff, they’re putting SIGNS up!!”

“When that happens, it means people are just beginning to really get the message…”

And he was right.

Two weeks later, our candidate was elected England’s youngest Member of Parliament. Coming from third place to win.

It’s easy to assume listeners easily “get” your message.

But if you really want it to stick, it’s worth repeating.

Again.

And again.

And again.
