Mastering a skill is like climbing a Munro.

From a distance on a clear day, the view from sea level is spectacular.

On embarking up through the foothills, there’s a certain novelty.

Before long, progress starts to take genuine effort.

Progress long feels insignificant in comparison to the desired goal - namely to reach the summit (or at least climb as high as possible).

There can be times when it’s seriously tough to keep on going.

Unexpected foul weather can all too easily deter or ensnare the unprepared or ill-equipped.

You might even feel the need to turn back.

But the sense of achievement on reaching the summit is more than worth the effort - and for its own sake.

There’s always another summit to climb.

You’ve gained experience to draw on for a lifetime.

And in so doing, inspire others to make the climb…
