Who Do You Bring To Meetings?

Expert Hat

Who do you bring to meetings?

I don’t mean in terms of other people.

I mean inside your own head.

They say change begins at an identity level.

So does impact.

If you’re more junior and wear your “job title” hat in the meeting, your energy will reflect that.

If you’ve less experience or knowledge than others and you wear a “I’m younger and less experienced” hat, your energy will reflect that.

Personally, I find the “expert” hat to be far more empowering.

It’s relative and you get to define it as you wish.

That way, respectfully, you can engage with others on an even playing field.

It’s also the key to speaking truth to power.

The trick is to figure out what metrics you need in place to characterise your authentic expert status.

In 2018, Simon coached me with public speaking, style, helped write my pitch, and gave me every imaginable tip to manage my nerves, present with esteem, conviction and win over the audience - with his help I went on to pitch to 3,000 people and win the World Social Enterprise competition. I cannot recommend him more highly to any CEO or senior executive looking to perfect their public speaking and win over an audience.
