Simon Bucknall: Speaker for Schools

Young people who master their speaking skills gain a decisive edge - not just in their GCSE English but as school leaders, in the classroom, at interview and in their careers and lives beyond.

"In life, there are so many moments where our ability to communicate effectively, confidently and with intent is so important.

So how come we don't teach it in schools?"

Simon was delighted to deliver sessions to Greek and international students attending the Oxford Global Summit for Young Leaders 2019 at Byron College in Athens, a unique international educational event aimed at developing the skills required to become future leaders and innovative thinkers.

Attendees were immersed in a program of keynote speeches, seminars and workshops designed to motivate and stimulate students from across the disciplines to become critical thinkers.

Based in the UK, Simon offers a limited number of communication skills talks to secondary schools each year, to help pupils build confidence and improve their interview performance and all-round personal impact.

Benefits for students include:

  • improved powers of persuasion and influence
  • a sense of greater confidence in conversations
  • improved performance in job/university interviews
  • the ability to build rapport with others more effectively.

With a vast array of public speaking experience, Simon knows how to engage a young audience - be assured, bring Simon in and he'll have your students on the edge of their seats...

"Large numbers of students went out of their way to thank me for inviting such a fantastic speaker in; they learnt a huge amount about public speaking and were gripped by both the material and the warmth with which it was delivered...thank you."

SIXTH FORM LECTURE - SIMON BUCKNALL

FRANCIS HOLLAND SCHOOL - REGENT'S PARK - March 2019

Simon Bucknall is a professional speaker, coach and facilitator. He specialises in helping high-achieving people through the spoken word.

Simon shared some interesting personal anecdotes and some very useful tips which really resonated with our audience. First and foremost, he reassured everybody that public speaking is a skill and not a gift and that, therefore, it can be learnt and perfected. He explained how in an interview scenario the interviewee is not tested on the knowledge transferred but rather on their ability to access what is relevant to answer the question and highlighted the importance of being able to structure an answer on the spot. His final piece of advice for public speaking was "make a point to tell a story or tell a story to make a point".

"Simon led two workshops for our Oxbridge candidates. He really made them think about how they engage with their subject and helped them to improve their interview technique. The pupils learned much and were inspired to continue their own preparation.

Many thanks again for your help."

Simon, you opened my eyes to a whole concept in my speech I was yet to uncover. I can now absolutely see why you have the reputation that you do. To say I am thankful is an understatement.
